Bunion Surgeons are Only Half the Equation
"Do not ask God to guide your footsteps
if you are not willing to move your feet."
if you are not willing to move your feet."
I don't know who said that quote, but when it comes to bunion surgery and long-term recovery, it's good advice.
Successful bunion surgery, recovery, and healing are dependent on you moving your feet and your mind to a place of self-responsibility. We've all heard horror stories about bad bunion surgery outcomes, and if you've read other posts on this blog, you know I'm the first to question the surgeon. However, in all fairness to bunion surgeons, they are only half the equation.
It is up to you to follow your doctor's recommendations as well as follow up with questions if you have pain. Don't put off checking in earlier than your scheduled appointment because you're afraid of seeming pushy or you think they're too busy - you must be your own advocate to create a successful outcome.
Move your feet after surgery, but within your doctor's guidelines. Moving too much too early can affect bone placement. Not moving enough can slow down healing. Do continue to exercise your toes and feet after your bunion surgeon's blessing every day as well as pray and hold a positive attitude. All of these actions are key to your long-term mobility.
Here's to healthy feet and a happy mind. Smiling Walker
